Cooks Creek Watershed Association Protects Local Waters

As Ripple tells it, the story begins in 1972 with the passage of the Clean Water Act. The federal legislation became the nations primary law governing water pollution, setting standards for water quality, providing guidance for enforcement, and establishing federal jurisdiction over protected waterways. Some of those waterways are defined by the Environmental Protection Agency as a variety of streams: headwater streams, which are the uppermost streams in the river network; seasonal streams, or waters that flow for only part of the year; and ephemeral streams, or those that depend on rainwater. Ripple echoes the EPA in stating the importance of these streams.
